A Reason Why There Are Such Things as Jail

Just look at that image for a minute. First of all, the man beat this child. Then he tried convincing the mother of this child that he “fell off the couch.” How could *anyone* do anything like this to such a beautiful child….to ANY child? What could this child POSSIBLY have done?

La Vista police said the injuries were caused by Keith Parker, 28, the live-in boyfriend of Aiden’s mother. He was arrested Monday morning on felony child abuse charges. Parker made his first court appearance Thursday, where his bond was set at $250,000.

The baby will be fine, authorities say, this injury the result of multiple skull fractures. The mother of Aiden believed her boyfriend at first, because it didn’t look this bad, but the bruising kept developing and after 3 days took the baby to the hospital.

Yanno, Parker may be protected from the general population behind bars, but that doesn’t mean he’s protected from those behind bars with him. Parker would make a good whipping post…have at him! Let’s see how he likes it.

UPDATE: Here’s what an evil, vile, sick, disgusting child abuser looks like:

I thank God that Aiden is healing and will be okay…at least on the outside. I pray that he never sees such evil again in his life. As for Parker, I pray that justice will be served. That man should never see the outside of a 6′ hole again, but at the very least, he should never again see the outside of a prison cell.

Artist Seeks Subjects for Nude Shoot on Swiss Glacier
Wednesday, July 18, 2007

ZURICH, Switzerland — Wanted: volunteers willing to take their clothes off and have their picture taken on a freezing cold Alpine glacier.

The appeal by New York artist Spencer Tunick, famous for taking pictures of thousands of naked people in public settings worldwide, is intended for a photo shoot to highlight the effects of climate change on Switzerland’s shrinking glaciers, environmental group Greenpeace said on its Web site Wednesday.

I’m simply appalled at the increasing number of people taking advantage of our poor, dying planet.

Greenpeace said if global warming continues at its current pace, most Swiss glaciers will disappear by 2080.

When Greenpeace speaks…….do people really listen? Besides, the author here says it’s going to be FREEZING COLD!

The photo-shoot, which follows Tunick’s previous shoots in London, Mexico City and Amsterdam, will take place in August at an undisclosed location in Switzerland.

Oh sure…..August!

Prospective candidates from further afield will have to start making travel arrangements now. “We aim to make this a climate-friendly event, so please come by public transport and don’t fly,” Greenpeace said.

Isn’t flying considered “public transport”, and if there’s a plane going there anyway….

Happy Birthday, USA!

Author:
Irving Berlin, 1918; revised 1938

Spoken Introduction:

“While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that’s free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.”

God bless America, land that I love
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with the light from above
From the mountains To the prairies,
To the ocean white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

The unofficial national anthem of the United States was composed by an immigrant who left his home in Siberia for the USA when he was only five years old. The original version of “God Bless America” was written by Irving Berlin (1888-1989) during the summer of 1918 at Camp Upton, located in Yaphank, Long Island, for his Ziegfeld-style revue, Yip, Yip, Yaphank. “Make her victorious on land and foam, God Bless America…” ran the original lyrics. However, Irving decided that the solemn tone of “God Bless America” was somewhat out of keeping with the more comedic elements of the show, so the song was laid aside.

LEARN TO PLAY PIANO. In the fall of 1938, as war was again threatening Europe, he decided to write a “peace” song. He recalled his lyrics of “God Bless America” from twenty years earlier, then made some alterations to reflect the different state of the world. Singer Kate Smith introduced the revised “God Bless America” during her radio broadcast on Armistice Day, 1938. The song was an immediate sensation; the sheet music was in great demand.

Berlin’s file of manuscripts & lyric sheets for this quintessentially American song includes manuscripts in the hand of his longtime musical secretary, Helmy Kresa (he himself did not read and write music), as well as lyric sheets, and corrected proof copies for the sheet music.

These materials document not only the speed with which this song was revised, but also its author’s attention to detail. The first proof copy is dated October 31, 1938; the earliest “final” version of the song is a manuscript dated November 2; and Kate Smith’s historic broadcast took place on November 11. So, documents show the song’s step-by-step evolution from the original version of 1918 to the tune we now know.

The manuscripts mentioned above are part of the Irving Berlin Collection, a remarkable collection that includes his personal papers as well as the records of the Irving Berlin Music Corp. It was presented to the Library of Congress in 1992, by his three daughters, Mary Ellin Barrett, Linda Louise Emmet, and Elizabeth Irving Peters.

What an amazing song! Isn’t it wonderful that we have been so lucky to be connected with people who are able to put to words our deepest thoughts and emotions? Irving Berlin was truly inspired. Close your eyes and listen to his message. Does it not touch your soul? Can’t you just see crashing waves- the majesty of the mountains? All of the beautiful people working every day, alive and free because of the dream of our beloved Founding Fathers?

As this song is being broadcasted through out the world on various occasions, there is this incredible overwhelming desire to jump up and sing with all the energy of the soul, knowing that if we did, the choirs of Heaven would be singing right along with us! Our people love our country, our Lord loves our country, and as long as we continue to fight for our gift of love and freedom, we will continue to enjoy the blessings of this, our sacred nation.

As with any song that strikes an emotional chord (be it sacred, gospel or patriotic tunes) I get goosebumps and choked up to the point that I can’t sing, but rather, cry. Every American should feel this way.

She Was on a Roll….Three, Actually!

News doesn’t get better than this. THIS, my friends, is heavy hitting, so prepare yourself!

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - Police blame a woman named Butts for stealing toilet paper from a central Iowa courthouse, and while they’re chuckling, the theft charge could put her in prison.

“She’s facing potentially three years of incarceration for three rolls of toilet paper,” Chief Lon Walker said, stifling a laugh as he talked to KCCI-TV about Suzanne Marie Butts. “See, I can’t say it with a straight face.”

[silence]

Wow. There are just so many things I can say, but in the end game, all I can say is that she is sure going to be the BUTT of a few jokes for some time to come. BWHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Walker did not know why Butts was at the courthouse, but said that she did not work there.

Awwwwwww….c’mon Chief…you know why she was there….she was WIPING out your stock of toilet paper! Wow….I just kill myself sometimes!

The Sopranos…Lamest Ending of a Series EVER

Both Vinnie and Beth share my sentiments (swearing, bitching and all), so I won’t try and write a major post on it. But I will say this.

I will never watch another David Chase “masterpiece” again.

I will never watch any “Sopranos” movie they may try to sell, unless they mail me a free ticket and pay for my popcorn, soda and babysitting expenses.

I will cancel HBO as soon as possible.

I will remain thoroughly disgusted that I bought some of the seasons on DVD (but will pat myself on the back for stopping when I knew full well the show was going downhill).

I will totally kick myself IN THE ASS for watching each episode faithfully, even after the show entered major suckdom a couple of seasons ago. Damn loyalty bullshit!

GAH! I think I need to go whack something. Er, maybe I’ll just go eat some fucking onion rings or something. Jerks!

The Most Obvious Headline Ever

The headline… Studies: Death Penalty Discourages Crime

::: slaps head ::: Whodathunkit?

An excerpt:

What gets little notice, however, is a series of academic studies over the last half-dozen years that claim to settle a once hotly debated argument — whether the death penalty acts as a deterrent to murder. The analysts say yes. They count between three and 18 lives that would be saved by the execution of each convicted killer.

But the life of a criminal is more valuable than those three to 18 lives for our society, or so it seems by everyone’s desire to abolish the death penalty.

And the co-author of the study is against the death penalty!

“Science does really draw a conclusion. It did. There is no question about it,” said Naci Mocan, an economics professor at the University of Colorado at Denver. “The conclusion is there is a deterrent effect.”

A 2003 study he co-authored, and a 2006 study that re-examined the data, found that each execution results in five fewer homicides, and commuting a death sentence means five more homicides. “The results are robust, they don’t really go away,” he said. “I oppose the death penalty. But my results show that the death penalty (deters) — what am I going to do, hide them?

I encourage you to read the rest of this story, which follows by outlining conclusions and the various levels of argument for the flip side. The morality issues, the “flawed” methodology, etc.

It’s really common sense to me. Yes, serious and speedy consequences to a situation will deter future criminals to consider the same crime. When there are no serious or speedy consequences that make a criminal pause, they will continue down the path, willing to take the consequences. Am I cold blooded for wanting to protect innocent people from murderers? I personally don’t think so. I only wish society could see the consequences for their decision to let these criminals off with a slap versus a real sentence.

Gin for Sixth Graders?

Let’s see…I’ve heard teachers bitch about “Leave No Child Behind” but didn’t know that meant taking them to the bar….

AKRON, Ohio — Officials in Ohio said they’ll investigate reports that students at a charter school were served gin at their sixth-grade graduation.

School authorities said that four students were given a teaspoon of gin mixed with water at a ceremony at the school in Akron this week.

In a day and age where there are so many groups evangelizing the need to keep kids away from alcohol (D.A.R.E., M.A.D.D. to name two), school officials think it’s okay to serve booze to kids graduating sixth grade? Oh…..never mind. Now I’m seeing the ticket to ride….

A school official said the ritual — meant to teach honesty — is similar to an African rite of passage. He reports the kids spit out the gin.

So…the fact that it was proclaimed to be an African rite of passage - paired with the fact that they spit it out - makes it okay? Um, is that anything like Bubba Clinton’s proclamation that he didn’t inhale? Oh, yeah, the whole rite of passage is supposed to teach honesty. HONESTLY!!!! What’s next….pot so they can open up and free their artful expression? Really!

Angels are With You, Kelsey Smith

It appears that an already tragic story of abduction had an even more tragic end:

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — Police are searching for a killer after discovering the body of who they believe is missing 18-year-old Kelsey Smith, who disappeared four days ago.

Members of a Texas-based search team found the body across state lines near Grandview, Mo., about 20 miles from where she was abducted.

“Pending completion of a forensics examination, we have reason to believe we have found Kelsey Smith,” Overland Police Chief John Douglass said during a press conference Wednesday. “I promised them [the family] we will continue every effort to solve this case … and to bring her killer to justice.”

These types of cases infuriate me. Look at that picture. She was a girl that appeared to be so full of joy, so full of life, with a promising future ahead of her. How DARE some disgusting pig of a human being make the decision to take that all away? Who do they think they are? I hope they find the freak that did this to her and I hope that someone has the GUTS to punish them in the way they should be…no “poor criminal” or “not guilty by reason of insanity” crap. I’m so sick of hearing it. These criminals are fueled not only by pure evil, but by the flames that are fanned every day in the justice system. When we don’t give these murdering bastards REAL CONSEQUENCES, they know they can do what they want to do without fear of a punishment that truly fits the crime.

God bless Kelsey’s family and friends. I cannot even begin to understand your pain, but I’m praying for you. I know that if they confirm Kelsey is gone, be comforted that she has been in the arms of angels and feels the joy that she was meant to have here with you. I pray that you can find some peace in all of this. I also pray that they find the beast who did this so others will be safe.

Update: Looks like they may have caught the bastard:

A 26-year-old man seen on a video surveillance tape was charged Thursday with premeditated first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in connection to the death of recent high school graduate Kelsey Smith, who disappeared from a Target parking lot in Overland Park, Kan.

Police arrested Edwin Hall, 26, on Wednesday night after he appeared on a security camera video shortly before Smith, 18, walked out of Target and was forced into a car last Saturday.

May the family find even a small amount of comfort in knowing it is entirely possible that Kelsey’s killer has now been found and removed from society.

Another worthless piece…

Mom of Molested Disabled Girl Gets Prison for Taking Money From Abuser

Despite an admission of guilt and a tearful apology, a Wilmington woman was sentenced Monday to 65 months in prison for accepting $10,000 in hush money from the man who sexually molested her severely disabled daughter.

The 33-year-old woman, whom the Tribune is not naming to protect her children, apologized to Will County Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak. “Most of all, I want to apologize to my children,” said the mother of three while softly crying.

You piece of shit. Five and a half years. You’re a lucky piece of shit. If I were judge, you wouldn’t see daylight ever again.

But Bertani-Tomczak noted the woman was sentenced to 30 months’ probation in 2003 for crashing her car while drunk and causing two of her children to sustain broken bones.

“It seems you’ve made seriously bad choices in your life that have had serious consequences for your children,” the judge said.

You piece of shit.

Lawrence Sommers, the woman’s attorney, said he would ask Bertani-Tomczak to reconsider her decision. “We believe the sentence is excessive,” he said.

You’re a piece of shit too.

The woman pleaded guilty in March to obstruction of justice and concealing a fugitive for accepting $10,000 from Lawrence Lee Southwood and agreeing not to tell authorities what she knew about the molestation.

Southwood, 69, is serving a 104-year prison term after a jury convicted him of sexually abusing the girl when she was 14.

“For $10,000, she’ll look the other way, not cooperate with police, while her daughter is being sexually assaulted by a pedophile,” Assistant State’s Atty. Lea Norbut said.

Southwood gets 104 years. They should have castrated the bastard and shoved it down his throat or up his ass.

Southwood befriended the woman and sometimes cared for her disabled daughter, who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair. At the trial of Southwood, who has a long history of sexual and violent crimes, the girl testified he repeatedly molested her in August and September 2005.

A day after accepting the money, the woman told Detective David Margliano she did not know of any sexual contact between Southwood and her daughter, prosecutors said.

“Her decision to take $10,000 to look the other way was an act of unconscionable greed and betrayal like I have never seen during my 28 years in the criminal justice system,” State’s Atty. James Glasgow said Monday.

The woman’s children are being cared for by an aunt and uncle under the supervision of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, according to testimony.

For about nine months after being arrested in January 2006, the woman was barred from seeing her children, testified Donald Adams Jr., a foster care case manager for Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Joliet, who is monitoring the children’s welfare.

The children’s behavior declined during that period, and there were regular disturbances, Adams said. When the mother was allowed to have weekly supervised visits, the disturbances decreased, he said.

Do the kids WANT to see their piece of shit mother?

The woman’s sister, boss and baby-sitter testified on her behalf, saying she would be able to comply with any conditions of probation — the sentence sought by Sommers.

“It would do the people of the State of Illinois no good to incarcerate this woman and cause further damage to her children,” Sommers said.

But Norbut noted the woman’s history. In addition to the drunken driving case, she was convicted in 1996 of driving with an unrestrained child and in 2003 of driving on a suspended license. Her children were under DCFS supervision for a time after the DUI crash, according to testimony.

Yeah, yeah….forgive and forget, right? Let’s not cause “further” damage to the kids by incarcerating their piece of shit mother.

I give up.

Random Thoughts…

Real life has a way of catching my attention lately! I just have a few random thoughts I wanted to get down…

Rachael Ray. Why did you go there? Why did you have to have Bubba on your show? Okay, so you want to help improve the health of children through healthy eating and all that, so you’re partnering with his organization. But you could have STILL done that and not subjected me to his presence on your talk show. I still have bad nightmares about that. But then I watched your show yesterday, covering the prom you delivered to the seniors at Enterprise, AL’s high school. You have a very big heart and did fabulous things to help these kids have a memorable prom that will hopefully ease some of the pain they’ve had losing eight of their friends and siblings. But we still need to talk about that whole Clinton thing, really. I’m just happy you had Laura Bush on your show FIRST!

Hubby has just celebrated his 3-year blogiversary! Stop over at his digs to wish him well!

Leave Brit Spears alone, okay? Mostly because I’m SICK OF HEARING ABOUT IT. For that matter, the same thing applies to Eva Longoria, Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise, Justin Timberlake, Demi and Ashton, Prince William and Kate whatsername and all of the other people that seem to have every day things going on, they just pay 10 times more than you and I do for their weddings, their honeymoons, their divorces, their mascara. Oh, and WHO CARES ABOUT ROSIE O’DONNELL? It all happened the way it did for pure publicity and she will now have her pick of shows should she choose to go that route. I can’t STAND her, so I ignore her. I just hate seeing her nasty, snarly face pasted over all of the mags I read every week. There should be a WARNING on the magazine cover when she’s in it. Really!

…and that’s all for now!

A Proud Moment

I have been officially banned from the MLive Grand Rapids Forum: http://www.mlive.com/forums/grandrapids/index.ssf

I had been posting under the name given to me by Merri’s husband, the Stroosinator. I fit in pretty well amongst the numerous liberals, and I held my own with them. I believe they respected me for that!

But it wasn’t my political comments that got me canned for a day. Nor was it filthy language, which I would not use on that Forum (TOA).

Nope it was my three posts regarding Rosie O’Donnell (of all things). I simply stated that her FAT mouth finally did her in. (She’s no longer with The View as of June). After my first post was deleted, I posted again. And then a third time. Shame on me for being so insensitive (not like Rosie herself at the Ladies Awards Dinner where “Eat me”, and “F this, F that” was spewed forth with young adult women in the crowd)

Somebody there at the forum surely loves Rosie, but not me.

That’s fine. I’ll do my time in the slammer. But like most hardened criminals, I feel I’ll be back with a vengence.

Or my name isn’t STROOSINATOR!
